Investing in young people in our community

Updated: Aug 29

You might say "It's just rugby" but we see our support of grassroots sporting initiatives as a way to invest in our young people by giving them the opportunity to showcase their abilities and talents.

For the second year in a row, Federal Pacific (Fedpac) Samoa backed the Mataniufeagaimaleata Sapapalii International Sevens as Naming sponsor with SAT$30,000 donation to the tournanent held between 22nd - 24th August 2024.

Aligned with the annual celebration of the arrival of Christianity in Sapapalii, the weekend of rugby drew spectators from all across the island as well as Upolu for three days of perfect weather and of course, great rugby.

This is the third year the tournament has taken place, but this year the tournament went international, welcoming teams from New Zealand and American Samoa to the Men's’ Open Division competition. In addition, the Tournament introduced an U18 competition for schools, including for the first time, a women's competition, won by a determined team from Itu o Tane College.

It was to be a Savaii clean sweep across all three Divisions.

For the third consecutive year, Kokonut Productions Tama Uli Rugby Club from Salelologa successfully defended its title in a thrilling final match-up with the fiery Laumua Afega team.
